Steps before your mold test

Its important to state that the home owner or tenant should practice Closed Building Conditions prior to mold testing.

  1. Turn off air purification machines for twenty-four hours before the appointment.  Also, any humidifiers, exhaust fans or air conditioners.
  2. Keep all doors and windows closed for a period of two hours before any testing begins.  Normal in-and-out traffic of door is fine.
  3. Turn off HVAC/central heating systems for a minimum of two hours before testing.
  4. Try to not use bathtubs, showers or hot tubs/saunas within 12 hours before testing.  These appliances will raise humidity and moisture levels and hinder the analysis process.
  5. No grass or shrub cutting or pruning for four hours before your appointment. Outside landscaping stirs up the natural background mold, so the outside control sample(s) may provide false information.
